GASLIT: A Panel Discussion of the Gas Industry
Our Landmark Conversations on Main St. event “Gaslit” was a great success!
If you missed the event you can view it here: https://www.youtube.com/live/JPXXSRbMnog?feature=share program starts at 29:00min.
This event emphasized the many ways we’ve been gaslit by the powerful petrochemical industry. One of the main takeaways from the event is that we must move away from combustion of fossil fuels and towards renewables. Homes and buildings are the biggest climate offenders. Natural gas consists of a high percentage of methane (>85 percent), the most potent greenhouse gas responsible for warming the planet. From fracking to combustion it leaks into the atmosphere.
While the gas industry touts the “cleanliness” of “natural” gas; fracking, or the extraction of it, is far from “clean” or “natural”. On the contrary, it is one of the worst contributors to global climate change and pollution. Fracking seriously contaminates drinking water and it has to be stopped! Do your part and mitigate global warming by unhooking from gas.
As our “Gaslit” panel speakers discussed, the transition away from natural gas in the home is easier than one thinks, and it will save you money over time. Energy efficient heat pumps, solar panels, and induction stoves are the way to go - they are the future and a much better alternative to our current reliance on polluting fossil fuels.
