Beach Clean-Up Station

Isaac Graubard (TTPW student intern and President of Schreiber Tree Huggers Club), Jeremiah Bosgang (Executive Director of Sands Point Preserve Conservancy) and Margaret Galbraith (President of TTPW) perform ribbon cutting for new beach clean-up station at Sands Point Preserve

Beginning in June 2023, a sturdy professionally-installed beach clean-up station serves Sands Point Preserve through the hard work of TTPW youth activist intern Isaac Graubard and his mentors Heather Simon Clark and Margaret Galbraith. In partnership with the Sands Point Preserve Conservancy and the Schreiber High School Tree Huggers Club, TTPW had the station designed and installed, complete with sturdy refuse-collection baskets and trash-pickers. The station enables beach-goers at Sands Point Preserve to regularly pick-up plastic debris and other refuse during their visits, and encourage all visitors to the preserve to think more deeply about what happens to the plastic trash they produce.

Additional beach clean-up stations are already in planning stages in other areas of the Port Washington peninsula. TTPW as well as its youth activists hope the success of the Sands Point Preserve beach clean-up station will lead to the installation of many more clean-up stations in waterfront areas within our community, and ultimately contribute to cleaner beaches and heightened awareness of the impact of plastics and refuse on our waterways.
