Petition for Water-Testing at Manorhaven Beach Park
Manorhaven Beach Park

Manorhaven Beach and its waters were given a "C" rating in water quality in 2024. Although Manorhaven Beach is not officially recognized as "open,” the surrounding waters are accessed by many people throughout the season for paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, wading, and other activities that expose visitors to the waters content.
Day-to-day operations of Manorhaven Beach Park are managed by the Town of North Hempstead, but Nassau County Health Department is responsible for testing and reporting water quality. Because Manorhaven Beach has been closed for many years, Nassau County does not and will not test and report water quality. Nassau County has stated that if the Town of North Hempstead Commissioner of Parks would request Manorhaven Beach be changed to "open" status then the county would test and report as they do for all other open status beaches.
For the safety and welfare of all Manorhaven Beach visitors, we are requesting the following:
1. The Commissioner of the Town of North Hempstead Parks make a formal request to Nassau County to change Manorhaven Beach Park to "open" status.
2. Nassau County immediately begin standard testing reporting of the Manorhaven Beach's water quality and report testing results alongside other Nassau County beach testing results on its website.
These steps will help all Manorhaven Beach visitors to be appropriately informed to make safe decisions for their children and themselves.
